Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins (Scherzer vs. Koehler) |
Washington Nationals (ML) 1.51 (Bet365.com) |
Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins will play Game 3 of their series tonight. The Nationals lost the first 2 games, as they have been in a slump lately. The Nationals could stop the losing streak today by sending their ace Max Scherzer (17-7, 2.78 ERA) to the mound, who leads the Majors in strikeouts with 259. He's 11-4 with a 3.23 ERA on the road. In April at Miami, Scherzer gave up 5-five runs in 5-five innings. Since that loss, he has allowed as many as 5-five runs only twice in his 26 starts. However, Scherzer has been dominant all season, having a WHIP of .093 in 210 2/3 innings. Miami Marlins will counter with Koehler (9-11, 3.96 ERA), who has been among the Marlins' most consistent starters. At home, he's 4-5 with a 3.72 ERA. With that said, I am expecting Washington to stop the losing streak today and win the game, so I pick Washington Nationals straight on the Money Line (ML), No Runs.
UPDATE September 22, 2016 - FINAL Result: Washington Nationals 8-3 Miami Marlins. The Nationals stopped their losing streak last night: Washington's offense broke out in 8-3 victory over Miami at Marlins Park, including a three-run homer from Ryan Zimmerman and a solo blast from Trea Turner. Their ace, Max Scherzer, won Game No.18, as we expected him to do. Scherzer cruised through the first six innings before serving up a pair of homers in the 7th inning. With the win, the Washington Nationals are now 89-63, and lowered their magic number for clinching the NL East for the third time in five seasons to 2-two games after the Mets fell third straight time in a row to the Braves, 4-3.
