New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies (Lugo vs. Morgan) |
New York Mets (ML) 1.64 (Bet365.com) |
The New York Mets lost 3 games in a row at home, unexpectedly, from the Atlanta Braves [who basically swept New York]. However, their schedule remains "an ally" with 10 games to go. It is time to start winning again, as New York hosts the Phillies on Thursday for the first of 4-four games at Citi Field. Seth Lugo will be the Mets' starting pitcher. Lugo allowed 1 run over 5 innings in a no-decision Saturday against the Twins; also gave up four hits. Seth is now allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last five starts, as he was outstanding on the mound, posting very low 2.35 ERA over 53 2/3 innings. Lugo will face Phillies' Adam Morgan, who gave up two runs (one earned) in 4 1/3 innings Friday against the Marlins. Morgan is only 2-4 in away games played this season, with an ugly, high 5.84 ERA. The New York Mets won six of their last nine games against the Phillies. They must win this home game tonight, if they want to make the Playoffs, so I pick the New York Mets straight up on the Money Line (ML).
UPDATE September 23, 2016 - FINAL Result: New York Mets 9-8 Philadelphia Phillies. The New York Mets had to work all night to win this game, as they had to come back three times; thanks to Asdrubal Cabrera's three-run home run off Edubray Ramos in the 11th inning, they completed a dramatic 9-8 win over the Phillies Thursday night at Citi Field. This comeback victory allowed New York to hold onto one of the two Wild Card spots in the National League. After entering the day even with San Francisco and St. Louis, New York remained tied for the first spot with the Giants, who beat the Padres 2-1, and moved a half-game in front of the Cardinals, who had an off-day.
