New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves (Gsellman vs. Teheran) |
New York Mets (+1.5 Runs) 1.46 (Bet365.com) |
The Mets will face the Braves on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET at Citi Field in the middle game of the 3-three-game series. New York very surprisingly lost Game 1 last night, which has left many people wondering whether Vegas had to do something with it...In Game 2, Atlanta is sending pitcher Julio Teherán (5-10, 3.18 ERA) to the mound to face the Mets. Teherán has allowed just 2-two runs over 30 innings in his last four starts against the Mets, thus he is expected to win tonight and is the clear favorite by far [however, last night the favorite Noah Syndergaard lost badly]. New York last beat him on April 23, 2015, at Citi Field. New York will counter with the rookie right-hander Robert Gsellman, who had just moved from Double-A Binghamton to Triple-A Las Vegas. Gsellman (2-1, 3.08 ERA) and Teherán matched up at Turner Field on September 9th, when the Mets scored 4-four late runs off the Braves' bullpen to secure a 6-4 victory. Gsellman holds 1.41 WHIP through 26 1/3 innings this season. That includes the 5-five shutout innings he tossed against the Nationals on Wednesday. With that, I pick the underdog New York Mets with the spread of (+1.5) runs.
UPDATE September 21, 2016 - FINAL Result: New York Mets 4-5 Atlanta Braves. The Atlanta Braves won 2nd game in a row in New York, this time behind their ace-pitcher Julio Teherán, whose 7-seven innings of one-run ball made him 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA against the Mets this season. After allowing Asdrubal Cabrera's RBI double in the 3rd inning, Teherán retired 15 of the final 16 batters he faced. Atlanta's offense broke through against Mets' starter R. Gsellman in the 6th, tying the game on a pop single that fell in between Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce, before taking the lead for good on a bases-loaded walk [and winning Game two 5-4]. With that terrible loss at home and St. Louis' win in Colorado 10-5, the New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals are tied for the top National League Wild Card spot.
