New York Mets - Minnesota Twins

On Sunday, the finale of an Interleague series between the Mets and the Twins, will be played at Citi Field.  Mets won the first 2 games of the series. With their win Saturday night, the Mets moved into a tie with the Giants for the top National League Wild Card spot, with both clubs two games ahead of the Cardinals. However, the Mets do hold the tiebreaker with the Giants, so if the two teams finished tied and ahead of the Cardinals, the NL Wild Card Game would be held at Citi Field (New York).  New York announced that pitcher deGrom is done for the season and likely headed for surgery on the ulnar nerve in his right elbow, and for that reason the 23-year-old Gabriel Ynoa will make his first Major League start in Game 3 (final game of the series).  Ynoa (1-0, 15.19 ERA) has made 6-six relief appearances with the Mets this season. Ynoa was 12-5 with a 3.97 ERA in 25 starts for Triple-A Las Vegas, and surprisingly he is the favorite to win. The Twins will send right-hander pitcher Kyle Gibson (6-9, 5.08 ERA) to the mound in Game 3.  He lost to the Mets in 2013 at Target Field, giving up 4-four runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.  Gibson pitched excellent on Tuesday, holding the Tigers to 1-one run across 8-eight innings of work in an 8-1 victory for the Twins over Detroit, thus he is expected to do well today. Gibson is 5-2 in away games played this year with 4.80 ERA. This, I picking the underdog Minnesota Twins with the spread of (+2.5) runs.

UPDATE September 19, 2016 - FINAL Result: New York Mets  3-2  Minnesota Twins. The New York Mets completed a 3-three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins on Sunday with a 3-2 victory.  Gabriel Ynoa had a great game - he struck out 8-eight over 4 innings in his 1-first career start. M. Conforto scored 2-two runs and T.J. Rivera homered [354 ft. to deep left] for the Mets. Twins' starting pitcher Kyle Gibson pitched 5 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 runs, posting 3 errors, moving up his ERA to 5.10.  This important win moved the New York Mets one game in front of the Giants for the National League's best record among Wild Card contenders after San Francisco lost to the Cardinals last night 0-3.
