New York Mets vs. Minnesota Twins (Colon vs. Berrios) |
New York Mets (+1.5 Runs) 1.25 (Bet365.com) |
The New York Mets are pushing for a postseason berth. On Friday, they host the Minnesota Twins at Citi Field for the 1-first game of a 3-three-game Interleague series. The Mets, who are neck and neck with the Giants and Cardinals for the two National League Wild Card spots, will send Bartolo Colon to the mound in the first game of a 10-game homestand. Colon has thrown 3-three consecutive quality starts, most recently a 5-six-inning, 3-three-run performance against the Braves in Atlanta. The Mets' veteran has not faced the Twins since 2013, when he pitched for the Oakland A's. Colon is 5-3 at home this year with 3.43 ERA. The Twins will counter with rookie pitcher Jose Berrios. Berrios has struggled for most of the season and particularly over his last 5-five starts, in which he had a 10.61 ERA and a .369 batting average against. He could not finish the third inning against the Indians on Sunday, allowing 5-five runs, while walking 4-four. Overall, Berrios has posted a 9.27 ERA over his first 11 major league starts, not that promising for him. With that said, I am picking the New York Mets with the spread of (+1.5) runs.
UPDATE September 17, 2016 - FINAL Result: New York Mets 3-0 Minnesota Twins. The New York Mets completed a clinical 3-0 win over the Twins on Friday night in Game 1 of the series. Bartolo Colon gave New York 7-seven shutout innings, Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera hit back-to-back home runs and the Mets never trailed. With the Giants' 8-2 win over the Cardinals, the Mets held on to the second NL Wild Card spot and secured a 2-two-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the race.
