Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles (Price vs. Miley) |
Boston Red Sox (+1.5) 1.25 (Bet365.com) |
Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles will start a three-game series today at Fenway Park. Orioles will send Wade Miley (8-12, 5.49 ERA) to the mound for Game 1 tonight. Miley is 1-4 with a 7.15 ERA since coming to Baltimore in a trade with the Mariners. He struggled with his command in his last start, taking the loss against the Yankees after allowing 4-four runs in 5-five innings. Miley has lost each of his past 2 starts after picking up his first win with the Orioles on August 24 in Washington. Baltimore's pitcher will square off against Boston's David Price (15-8, 3.87 ERA), who has won each of his past 6-six starts, including one against the Orioles, when he gave up one run in six innings in Baltimore on August 17. Price has posted a 2.14 ERA during his current 6-six-game winning streak. [He allowed 3-three runs in eight innings against Baltimore in June and took a no-decision way back in April, when he allowed 5-five runs in 5-five innings]. Currently, Boston's ace is in top shape, and is expected to win the game tonight. The stats show the Red Sox won the past 2-two meetings, outscoring the Orioles 13-4, in a two-game set in mid-August. With that said, I am picking Boston with the spread of (+1.5) runs.
UPDATE September 13, 2016 - FINAL Result: Boston Red Sox 12-2 Baltimore Orioles. Game 1 between the Red Sox and the Orioles was decided in the first inning on Monday night at Fenway Park. The Sox rallied very early and never looked back against O's starter Wade Miley during a 12-2 victory in which it pounded out 16 hits. Boston ace David Price pitched 8-eight solid innings, while allowing just 2-two hits, both being solo shots that came off the bats of Chris Davis and Manny Machado. Price had 9-nine strikeouts, and it was the first time in his career that he has won 7-seven straight games in 7-seven straight starts. David Ortiz had a career homer No. 536, tying Mickey Mantle for 17th place in the all-time list. Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Rays, 3-2, in Toronto on Monday, thus, the Red Sox remained only with a 2-two-game lead in the American League East. The Orioles meanwhile fell to second place in the AL Wild Card standings and are 3-three games back of Boston in the AL East Division.
