New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies (Ynoa vs. Eickhoff) |
Philadelphia Phillies (+1.5 Runs) 1.34 (Bet365.com) |
New York M will play their final game of the 3-gm. series against Philadelphia on Sunday. Mets clinched home field advantage for the Wild Card game on Wednesday, therefore, they have nothing to play for Sunday, and will probably put most of their reserves. The Phillies will send Jerad Eickhoff to the mound, who will make his final start of the season, facing off against the Mets' rookie Gabriel Ynoa. Eickhoff tossed 4 innings of 1-run ball game before exiting following a rain delay Tuesday versus the Braves. He might have a good game today. The Phillies will spend the afternoon honoring Ryan Howard, who will be playing his final game as a member of the Phillies. I am expecting a great game from Howard on Sunday - plenty of stats, to even crush a home run. There would be a pregame ceremony to celebrate the years he's spent in Philadelphia, helping lead them to 5 division titles, 2 NL pennants and, a World Series title. With that said, I believe the Mets will rest their key players, and I pick the Philadelphia Phillies with the spread of (+1.5) Runs.
UPDATE October 03, 2016 - FINAL Result: New York Mets 2-5 Philadelphia Phillies. The New York Mets clinched the Wild Card berth on Saturday, so we expected them to rest on Sunday in a meaningless Game 3 [final of the series and the regular season]. This is exactly what happened - Phils defeated the Mets 5-2 to end 2016 on a high note. New York's starting pitcher, the rookie Gabriel Ynoa, held the Phillies to just 1 run over 4 2/3 innings. His counterpart, starter Jerad Eickhoff, struck out 8 over 6 innings, as we expected him to do. The Phillies took the lead for good on Cesar Hernandez's RBI single in the 7th inning, part of a 3-run rally. That put Philadelphia with a final record of 71-91 for the year; the Mets finished 2nd in the division, at 87-75, and earned the Wild Card home field advantage. The final game of the 2016 season will be memorable for Ryan Howard - during the pregame celebration, and throughout the entire game in his honor on Sunday, Howard received multiple ovations from the Phillies' home crowd. Surprisingly, Howard did not show his powerful offense in the last game - he was 0-4, and popped out in his final at-bat in the 8th inning. Following a well-deserved day-off on Monday, the New York Mets will return to Citi Field for a team workout on Tuesday, and then will host the San Francisco Giants in the NL Wild Card Game on Wednesday night. Mets' ace Syndergaard (14-9, 2.60 ERA) is scheduled to start opposite San Francisco's best pitcher, Madison Bumgarner. This will be extremely tough matchup for New York.
