New York Mets - Miami Marlins

The New York Mets and Miami Marlins will conclude their 3-game series tonight.  The Mets will send Seth Lugo to the mound, who allowed 3 runs over 5 innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Phillies.  Lugo gave up 4 hits and walked 2 in all, striking out 4 before exiting the game. He holds a strong 2.61 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through Thursday's start, therefore he is the favorite to win Game 3. The Marlins will counter with pitcher José Ureña. Ureña lasted just 3 innings Thursday, allowing 5 runs in a tough loss to the Braves.  Urena is terrible at home (1-5); he has very high 5.95 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 78 2/3 innings of work. With that said, I pick the New York Mets with the spread of (+1.5) Runs.

UPDATE September 29, 2016 - FINAL Result: New York Mets  5-2  Miami Marlins.  The New York Mets took another solid step in qualifying for the Playoffs this year on Wednesday with a 5-2 victory over Miami, taking 2 of 3 at Marlins Park to reduce their magic number to reach the Postseason Playoffs just to 2 games.  Seth Lugo pitched 5 1/3 innings to extend his personal winning streak to 5 [as we expected], while James Loney and Jay Bruce backed him with two-run homers. Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect 9th inning for his franchise-record - 50th save, and the Mets finished the season 12-7 against the Marlins. Familia's 50th save not only extended his franchise record, but it also made him the first Dominican-born pitcher to reach that milestone. He is now one of 13 big league relievers to save 50 in a season. This could be vital for New York should they reach the Postseason - when teams lead the game going into the 9th inning, they win 95% of the time. The 5-2 win moved the New York Mets 1 1/2 games ahead of the San Francisco Giants for the best record among Wild Card contenders and 2 1/2 in front of the pursuing St. Louis Cardinals.
