New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins (Syndergaard vs. Koehler) |
New York Mets (ML) 1.62 (Bet365.com) |
The Mets and Marlins will continue their series on Tuesday night with Game 2. Yesterday, New York simply gave away Game 1, 3-7, as both teams paid a tribute to Jose Fernandez, whose death on Sunday morning in a boating accident stunned the sports world. New York will send pitcher Noah Syndergaard [13-9 with 2.63 ERA] to the mound, who missed his last start due to strep throat. Syndergaard will start opposite Tom Koehler [Marlins], who is (9-12) on the season. Syndergaard needed a few extra days rest. He threw a bullpen session on Saturday and appears to be feeling much better for today's game. The Mets must win this one [no more gimmicks or giveaways], if they want to stay on top of the Wild Card spot chase. Syndergaard has a 7-3 away record this season with 2.35 ERA, so he is being solid for the Mets all year long. Tom Koehler lasted only 4 innings and gave up 4 runs in a loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. With that said, I pick the New York Mets straight up on the Money Line (ML).
UPDATE September 28, 2016 - FINAL Result: New York Mets 12-1 Miami Marlins. The New York Mets scored a 12-1 victory against the Marlins, as we expected them to do, no gimmicks and/or giveaways this time. Noah Syndergaard struck out 8 over 6-six innings, while Bruce and Yoenis Cespedes backed him with two-run homers. The victory moved the New York Mets 1-one game ahead of the San Francisco Giants for the NL's top Wild Card spot, and kept them 1 1/2 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals.
